Vodafone Speed Test
This page helps Vodafone broadband customers (UK & Europe) understand their internet speed test results and determine whether the connection is performing within the normal range for Vodafone Full Fibre and Pro II services.
Vodafone is a major provider offering speeds up to 2.2 Gbps in select areas. Unique to Vodafone is the Pro II Broadband package, which includes the advanced Ultra Hub (Wi-Fi 6E) and automatic 4G backup via "Hybrid Connect".
How to interpret your Vodafone speed test result
A Vodafone speed test measures three core performance metrics:
Download speed – Should match your plan (e.g., Full Fibre 100, 500, or 910). If you are seeing dramatically lower speeds (e.g., 20 Mbps), you might be running on the 4G Backup system.
Upload speed – On Full Fibre plans, this is often symmetrical (same as download) or very high (e.g., 900 Mbps up on the 910 plan).
Latency (ping) – Typically 5–15ms on Full Fibre. If latency spikes to 50ms+, check if your router light is white (Fibre) or blue (4G Backup).
These values should be evaluated based on the type of connection (Ethernet vs. Wi-Fi) and the time of day.
Vodafone Broadband: Expected Performance
Connection characteristics
Technology: Full Fibre (FTTP) is the standard for new installations. Wi-Fi 6E is available on Pro II plans for less interference.
Ultra Hub 6E: Supports the new 6GHz Wi-Fi band, which is faster and less congested than 5GHz.
Peak Hours: 8 PM–10 PM. Vodafone's network is robust, but Wi-Fi signals in dense apartments can still suffer interference.
Typical real-world performance
Download speed: ~100 Mbps (Plan 100), ~500 Mbps (Plan 500), ~910 Mbps (Plan 900).
Upload speed: Symmetrical or high-ratio upload speeds are common on CityFibre infrastructure.
Wi-Fi Guarantee: Vodafone promises at least 10 Mbps in every room or you can exit your contract.
If you are on an older Superfast (FTTC) plan, speeds will be capped at ~35-65 Mbps depending on copper line distance.
Common Causes of Slow Vodafone Speeds
Slow speed test results on Vodafone are often caused by the automatic 4G failover kicking in without the user noticing.
Frequent causes
Running on 4G Backup: If your main fibre line has a fault, the "Hybrid Connect" dongle takes over. This keeps you online but at slower 4G speeds.
Wi-Fi 5 vs Wi-Fi 6E: Testing a 900 Mbps connection on an old phone will result in slow speeds. You need a Wi-Fi 6 or 6E device to see full speeds wirelessy.
Super WiFi Boosters: Incorrect placement of Mesh boosters can halve your speed. Place them halfway between the router and the dead zone.
Vodafone Hub Login – Default IP, Username & Password
Access your Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub or Ultra Hub admin panel to manage "Super WiFi" settings, split bands, or view line stats.
| Vodafone Router Details | Information |
| Login IP Address |
192.168.1.1 – Default for
THG3000 and Ultra Hub |
| Default Username | admin (usually) |
| Default Password | (Printed on the sticker on the bottom/back of the Hub. look for "Settings Password") |
Steps to Login
- Connect to your Vodafone Wi-Fi
- Open a browser
- Enter 192.168.1.1
- Use the password from the sticker (Not the Wi-Fi password!)
- Navigate to "Expert Mode" for advanced settings
Troubleshooting Gateway Lights
Solid White: Connected to Internet. Everything is good.
Pulsing Red (Internet): Trying to connect. If it lasts >5 mins, there is a line fault.
Pulsing White: Starting up or upgrading firmware. Do not unplug.
Solid Red (Internet): No connection detected. Check cables.
Wired vs Wi-Fi Testing on Vodafone
For Gigafast/Full Fibre 900 plans, Wi-Fi is rarely accurate.
Always use a Cat6 Ethernet cable connected to the 2.5G WAN/LAN port (on Ultra Hub) or standard LAN port to verify true speeds.
When to contact Vodafone support
You should consider contacting Vodafone support (191 from mobile) if:
Your Internet light is pulsing red for hours.
You have blackspots in your home (claim your free Super WiFi Boosters).
You are stuck on 4G Backup speeds despite the fibre line apparently working.
Vodafone Speed Test FAQs
What is Intelligent WiFi? This feature on the Vodafone Hub automatically optimizes channels and bands. It can sometimes cause momentary drops while switching devices between bands.
Does Vodafone throttle speeds? Generally no. Full Fibre plans are unlimited and unthrottled, even during peak times.
Why is my upload speed low on Pro II? If you are on a specific Openreach tier (e.g., 500/73), your upload is capped by the infrastructure, not Vodafone.
Competitors & Alternatives
If Vodafone Broadband isn't right for you, compare with these providers:
- BT Broadband Speed Test: The owner of the Openreach network, offering similar reliability.
- Virgin Media Speed Test: Offers faster top speeds (up to 2 Gbps) on their own coaxial network.
- Sky Broadband Speed Test: Popular for bundling TV packages with broadband.
