Hyperoptic Speed Test

This tool verifies Internet speeds for Hyperoptic customers. Hyperoptic uses its own independent fibre network (FTTP/FTTB), meaning it does not rely on Openreach (Phone lines) or Virgin Media (Cable). This allows for strictly **symmetrical speeds** (upload equals download).

Because Hyperoptic installs a dedicated fibre socket in your home (usually above the door), performance is very stable, but issues can arise with the router (Hyperhub).

Interpreting Your Hyperoptic Results

Download Speed:
- 1Gb Plans: Wired = ~900-940 Mbps. WiFi = 400-800 Mbps.
- 500Mb Plans: Wired = ~480-520 Mbps.
- 150Mb Plans: Wired = ~145-155 Mbps.

Upload Speed: Should be almost identical to your download speed (e.g., 900 Mbps Down / 900 Mbps Up). If upload is significantly slower, there may be a router configuration issue.

Ping (Latency): Extremely low (1-4ms) to London servers. Excellent for competitive gaming.

Hyperhub Router Login (ZTE / Nokia)

Troubleshooting Status Lights

Internet / WAN Light:
- Solid Green: Connected successfully.
- Solid Red: Authentication failed (Bill unpaid or area outage).
- Off: No physical connection. Check the Ethernet cable going from the router's RED WAN port to the wall socket.

WLAN (2.4G / 5G):
- Blinking Green: WiFi is active and transmitting data.
- Off: WiFi is disabled (press the WLAN button on the side/back).

CGNAT and Port Forwarding

Gamers Beware: Hyperoptic uses CGNAT (Carrier Grade NAT), meaning you share a public IP with other customers. This results in "Strict NAT" in games like Call of Duty and Xbox Live. To get "Open NAT", you need to call support and add a static IP address for £5/month.

When to Contact Support (0333 332 1111)

Call or email support@hyperoptic.com if:

Your "Internet" light is Red for more than 30 minutes.

You accidentally damaged the fibre socket (Hyperoptic Faceplate) on the wall.

You need to enable a Static IP for gaming or CCTV.

Hyperoptic Speed Test FAQs

Can I use my own router with Hyperoptic? Yes! Since Hyperoptic uses a standard RJ45 Ethernet connection from the wall (not a phone line/DSL), you can plug almost ANY router (Eero, Netgear, Asus) directly into the wall socket. No modem mode is required.

Why is my speed slow in the evenings? While Hyperoptic has its own network, congestion can still happen in large apartment buildings ("MDUs") if the building's backhaul is saturated. However, this is rare compared to Virgin Media or Openreach.

Is Hyperoptic faster than Virgin Media? Virgin Media usually offers faster downloads (up to 1.1Gbps) but much slower uploads (50-100Mbps). Hyperoptic offers symmetrical 1Gbps uploads, making it vastly superior for YouTubers, streamers, and cloud backups.
