Sky Speed Test (UK & Italy)
This page checks the performance of your Sky Broadband connection. Whether you are on Sky's Openreach network in the UK or Sky Wifi in Italy, this tool verifies your download, upload, and latency against your guaranteed minimums.
Understanding your Sky Results
Sky uses "Dynamic Line Management" (DLM) to stabilize your line. This means your speed might fluctuate in the first 10 days of a new contract.
Download Speed: On Sky Ultrafast Plus (500 Mbps) or Gigafast (900 Mbps), wired speeds should be consistent. On Superfast (FTTC), speed drops significantly with distance from the cabinet.
Upload Speed: Sky plans are asymmetrical. Do not expect your upload speed to match your download speed (unlike Hyperoptic or Community Fibre).
Ping: Typically 8-20ms on Fiber (FTTP). Copper (FTTC) lines may see 25-40ms due to interleaving.
Common Sky Hub Issues & Fixes
1. Amber "Voice" Light
This is common on the new Sky Broadband Hub (SR203). It often means the router cannot detect a phone plugged into the back. If your internet works fine, you can often ignore this, but check your "Internet Calls" settings in your account.
2. Sky Q Mesh Problems
Sky Q boxes act as WiFi boosters. If you have "blind spots" in your house, ensure your main Sky Q box and Mini boxes are plugged in and powered on. Turning them off at the wall breaks the WiFi mesh.
3. Slow WiFi on Sky Glass
Sky Glass TVs require ~25-30 Mbps for stable 4K streaming. If you experience buffering, the TV might be connecting to a distant 2.4GHz signal instead of 5GHz.
Sky Hub Login – Default IP, Username & Password
Access your router settings to change WiFi passwords or split bands.
| Region / Model | Default IP Address | Username / Password |
| Sky UK (SR203 / older) | 192.168.0.1 | admin / sky (or WiFi Password) |
| Sky Italy (Sky Wifi Hub) | 192.168.0.1 | admin / (See sticker on back) |
| Sky Max Hub (WiFi 6) | 192.168.0.1 | admin / (See sticker on back) |
Pro Tip: Splitting WiFi Bands
If your devices keep disconnecting, the "Smart WiFi" feature might be to blame. Log in to 192.168.0.1, go to WiFi settings, and untick "Synchronise 2.4GHz and 5GHz Settings" to create two separate networks.
When to contact Sky Support
Dial 150 from your Sky landline if:
- The Power light is flashing amber (Hardware fault).
- The Internet light is amber (Authentication failed).
- Your wired speed is below the "Guaranteed Minimum Download Speed" for 3 consecutive days (you can claim money back).
Sky Speed Test FAQs
Why is the Voice light amber on my Sky Hub? This indicates an issue with the VoIP (Internet Calls) service. Try restarting the router. If the internet works, it is likely a minor provisioning glitch.
What is the Sky Hub Login IP? Consistently 192.168.0.1 for both UK and Italy. Use 'admin' as the username.
Do Sky Q boxes affect my WiFi speed? Yes, positively! They extend your WiFi range. Ensure they are never turned off at the wall socket.
Is Sky Ultrafast symmetrical? No. Most Sky plans offer much faster download speeds than upload speeds.
