How to interpret your Hathway speed test

Your results will vary based on whether you are on a DOCSIS or Fiber plan:

Download Speed: Most popular plans are 50 Mbps, 100 Mbps, or 200 Mbps. If you consistently get < 1 Mbps, you have likely hit your FUP limit.

Upload Speed:
Fiber: Should be symmetric (same as download).
DOCSIS: Will be much lower (e.g., 5 Mbps upload on a 50 Mbps plan).

Ping (Latency): Expect 10-30ms on Fiber. DOCSIS connections may see 30-60ms.

Hathway Router Login – Default IP & Password

To change your Wi-Fi password or check connection status, you need to access your router admin page. Hathway commonly uses ZTE, Technicolor, and D-Link routers.

Steps to Login

  1. Connect to your Hathway network via Wi-Fi or LAN.
  2. Open Chrome/Safari and enter the IP address above.
  3. Enter the username and password (try admin for both if unsure).
  4. Navigate to "WLAN" to change your Wi-Fi password.

Common Causes of Slow Hathway Internet

1. FUP Throttling: This is the #1 cause. Hathway "Unlimited" plans have a hidden data cap (e.g., 1000GB or 3000GB). Once crossed, your speed is choked to 256 Kbps or 2 Mbps until the billing cycle resets.

2. MAC Binding Issues: Hathway security binds your internet to your router's physical address (MAC). If you buy a new router or reset the old one, internet may stop working ("No Internet" or Yellow Exclamation mark). Solution: Login to the Hathway portal or call support to "Reset MAC Binding".

3. Shared Bandwidth: Hathway's older cable technology shares bandwidth with neighbors. You may notice slower speeds at night (8 PM - 11 PM).

The "PON" light on your router is blinking Red (Fiber Cut).

The "Online" light on your cable modem is blinking unsteadily.

You need to reset MAC Binding after changing your router.

Can I use my own router with Hathway? Yes, but only as a secondary Access Point or if you ask Hathway to set their device to "Bridge Mode". You cannot replace their Fiber ONT directly.
