Kinetic Speed Test
This page helps Kinetic by Windstream customers verify their internet speeds. Whether you have Kinetic Fiber (Gigabit) or Kinetic DSL (High Speed Internet), this tool confirms if your T3200 Gateway is delivering the speed you pay for.
Your experience depends entirely on your technology. Fiber is symmetrical and consistent. DSL is "distance sensitive" and relies on copper phone lines.
How to interpret your Kinetic speed result
A Kinetic speed test measures three key metrics:
Download Speed:
• Fiber: Should be ~940 Mbps (Wired 1 Gig). Consistent 24/7.
• DSL: Variable. If you pay for 25 Mbps, expect 15-24 Mbps depending on your distance
from the node.
Upload Speed:
• Fiber: Symmetrical (e.g., 500 Mbps Up / 500 Mbps Down).
• DSL: Low. Typically 1-3 Mbps. Do not run backups while gaming.
Ping (Latency):
• Fiber:
<15ms. Excellent for gaming.
• DSL: 35-60ms. Higher jitter is common.
Kinetic Internet: Expected Performance
Connection characteristics
Technology: FTTH (Fiber) and xDSL (Copper).
Hardware: Actiontec T3200, Kinetic ICON (Sagemcom), Arris NVG343.
Network: Windstream backbone.
Typical real-world performance
Wired Fiber: 100% of plan speed.
Wired DSL: 80-95% of plan speed (best case).
Wi-Fi: Depends heavily on the router age (T3200 is AC Wi-Fi).
Common Causes of Slow Kinetic Internet
If your internet feels slow, check these Kinetic-specific issues:
1. Red Internet Light: A solid red light on your T3200 means the modem has lost its connection or IP address. Reboot immediately.
2. Phone Line Noise (DSL): If you hear static on your landline, your copper wire is corroded. This will kill your DSL speed.
3. Missing Filters (DSL): Every phone jack usage (fax, phone) requires a filter. The modem jack must NOT have a filter.
Kinetic Gateway Login – Default IP, Username & Password
Access your Actiontec T3200 or ICON gateway to change settings.

Troubleshooting Gateway Lights (T3200)
Solid Green (Internet): Connected and online.
Blinking Green: Attempting to connect.
Solid Red (Internet): Authentication failed. Check account status.
Red Power Light: Hardware failure or "Rescue Mode". Call support.
Wired vs Wi-Fi Testing
To verify if the issue is your line or your Wi-Fi:
Plug a CAT5e/CAT6 Ethernet cable directly from the Yellow LAN port of your T3200 to a laptop. If the wired test reflects your plan speed, your Windstream line is fine. Upgrade your Wi-Fi system (e.g., Eero mesh).
When to contact Kinetic Support
Contact Kinetic Support (800-347-1991) if:
Your Internet Light is Solid Red after a reboot.
Your DSL speed is consistently below 60% of what you pay for.
Your "DSL" lights are blinking (loss of sync).
Kinetic Speed Test FAQs
What is a good speed for Kinetic DSL? Anything above 25 Mbps is considered "High Speed". If you can get Fiber (500 Mbps+), switch immediately.
How do I fix a Red Internet Light? Unplug the power cord for 30 seconds. Plug it back in. If it stays red, you may need a technician to check the line outside.
Does Kinetic have data caps? Generally, Kinetic high-speed internet plans do not have data caps, but check your specific contract terms.
Can I use my own router? Yes, usually. Put the Kinetic Gateway into "Bridge Mode" (via 192.168.254.254) and connect your own router.
Compare with Alternative Providers
Compare yours speeds with other US providers:
- Spectrum Speed Test: Major cable competitor in many rural areas.
- T-Mobile Home Internet Speed Test: Popular 5G alternative for DSL users.
- AT&T Speed Test: Overlaps significantly in the South/Midwest.
- Viasat Speed Test: Satellite option for remote areas (high latency).
