TDS Speed Test

This tool verifies your internet connection speeds for TDS Telecom. Whether you are on the ultra-fast TDS Fiber (up to 8 Gig) network, DSL in rural areas, or TDS Cable, accurate testing is the first step to ensuring you get what you pay for.

TDS delivers service through a mix of technologies. Your expected results strongly depend on whether you have a fiber-optic connection or a traditional copper line.

Interpreting Your TDS Results

Download Speed:
- 1 Gig Fiber: Wired results should be 900-940 Mbps.
- 8 Gig Fiber: Requires 10Gbps equipment (NIC/Router). Standard PCs will cap at 940 Mbps.
- DSL: Highly variable (5 Mbps - 100 Mbps) based on distance from the node.

Upload Speed: TDS Fiber provides symmetrical speeds (e.g., 1000 Mbps Down / 1000 Mbps Up). If your upload is much lower on a fiber plan, check for software firewalls on your PC.

Ping (Latency):
- Fiber: 5-15ms (Ideal for gaming).
- DSL: 30-60ms (Acceptable but higher jitter).

TDS Equipment & Login (Actiontec / Eero)

TDS commonly issues the Actiontec T3200 gateway or, more recently, **eero** mesh systems for fiber customers.

Device Login Credentials
Actiontec T3200 / V1000H
(DSL/Fiber Gateway)
URL: 192.168.1.1
User: admin
Pass: See side sticker (often starting with 'TDS...')
eero Mesh System
(TDS Fiber default)
Managed entirely via the eero mobile app. No local web interface (192.168.4.1 typically redirects to app download).

Troubleshooting Actiontec Lights

Power: Solid Green = On. Red = Hardware failure.

Broadband / WAN:
- Solid Green: Sync established.
- Blinking Green: Attempting to connect (Scanning).
- Red: No signal detected. Check the cable from the wall.

Internet:
- Solid Green: Authenticated and Online.
- Red: Authentication failed. The line is physically okay, but login was rejected.

Wi-Fi 6 & 8 Gig Considerations

If you subscribe to the **2 Gig** or **8 Gig** plans, a standard speed test over Wi-Fi will virtually never show your full speed. Most mobile devices max out around 600-800 Mbps under real-world conditions.

To verify multi-gig speeds, you must use a desktop PC with a 2.5GbE or 10GbE Network Card wired directly to the ONT (Optical Network Terminal).

When to Contact TDS Support (1-888-225-5837)

Reach out to TDS support if:

The "Broadband" light is blinking red or unlit.

You have frequent disconnects during rain (common with aging copper DSL lines).

You need to bridge your T3200 modem to use your own router (requires "RFC 1483 Transparent Bridging" mode).

TDS Speed Test FAQs

Why is my TDS Fiber speed only 100 Mbps? This is almost always a cabling issue. If you use an old CAT5 cable or a device with a Fast Ethernet (10/100) port, you will be physically capped at 100 Mbps. Upgrade to a CAT5e or CAT6 patch cable.

How do I change my Wi-Fi password on Actiontec T3200? Log in to 192.168.1.1 using the admin credentials. Go to Wireless Setup > Basic Settings to change the SSID name and Password/Key.

Does TDS have data caps? Generally, TDS Fiber residential plans are unlimited. Legacy DSL plans in some rural areas may have caps, but this is becoming rare.
