Movistar Speed Test
This tool allows Movistar Spain customers to accurately verify their Fibra Óptica speeds. Whether you have the 600 Mb plan or the 1 Gb symmetric plan, test here to ensure your HGU (Smart WiFi) router is delivering the full bandwidth.
Movistar (Telefónica) operates the largest fiber network in Spain. All modern reliable installations use the "HGU" (Home Gateway Unit), which combines the ONT, Router, and Videobridge into a single device for a cleaner setup.
Understanding Your Movistar Speed Results
Your results verify if your connection meets the contract standards:
Download Speed: On a 1 Gbps plan, wired connections should hit ~930-940 Mbps (due to overhead). If you see ~94 Mbps, check if you are using an old Cat5 cable instead of Cat5e/Cat6.
Upload Speed: Movistar fiber is symmetric. You should see upload speeds nearly identical to your download speeds. This is crucial for uploading 4K videos or sending large files.
Ping (Latency): Movistar has excellent peering. Expect 3-10ms to Madrid/Barcelona servers.
Note: Movistar periodically increases speeds for free (e.g., 300Mb users upgraded to 600Mb). If you are not seeing the new speed, reboot your router to force a config update.
Smart WiFi Router (HGU): Features & Tips
Equipment Details
Standard Model: Smart WiFi (HGU) - available in Mitrastar and Askey variants.
Newest Model: Smart WiFi 6 - supports Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) for faster wireless speeds in congested apartments.
App: The "App Smart WiFi" allows you to block devices, pause the internet, and create guest networks easily from your phone.
Optimizing Wi-Fi
Use the 'Plus' Network: Most HGUs broadcast two networks: "Movistar_XXXX" (2.4GHz) and "Movistar_XXXX_PLUS" (5GHz). Always connect to the PLUS network for high speed.
Band Steering: Newer firmware combines these into one name. If your devices are slow, log in and split the networks again to force 5GHz.

Phone Icon (Red): VoIP telephony issue.
Wi-Fi Icon (Blinking): WPS pairing mode active or Wi-Fi traffic.
When to Contact 1004 / 1002
Call 1002 (Technical Support) if:
The "Mouse" light is flashing red for a long time.
You have physically broken the fiber connector.
Your speed is consistently below 50% of your plan despite being wired.
Movistar FAQs: Expert Troubleshooting
Can I change DNS on the HGU router? Yes, look for "Configuración Avanzada" > "LAN" > "DNS". However, Movistar sometimes resets this during firmware updates. It is reliable to set DNS on your PC/Console directly.
Why is my gaming ping high? Check if "Gaming Mode" is available in your Smart WiFi app to prioritize traffic. Also, ensure you are not double-NATted behind another router.
What is the Portal Alejandra? It is Movistar's cloud configuration tool. If you change your password locally via 192.168.1.1, you will lose access to Portal Alejandra unless you reset the router.
