M-net Speed Test

This tool verifies Internet speeds for M-net customers in Bavaria (Munich, Augsburg, Nuremberg). M-net is a pioneer in pure fiber optics (FTTH/FTTB), offering ultra-fast plans like "Surf&Fon-Flat 1000".

Because M-net uses high-performance fiber, any slowdown is usually due to local WiFi issues or the DS-Lite configuration affecting specific services.

Interpreting Your M-net Results

Download Speed:
- Gigabit Plan: Wired should be ~940 Mbps.
- 600 Plan: Wired should be ~600 Mbps.
If speeds are stuck at exactly 90-95 Mbps, check if your LAN port is in "Green Mode" (100 Mbit) in the FRITZ!Box settings.

Upload Speed: M-net fiber plans are typically asymmetric (e.g., 1000 Down / 300 Up), but still much faster than DSL or Cable upload speeds.

Ping (Latency): Excellent (3-10ms) to Munich servers. However, DS-Lite users may see slightly higher fluctuating ping in IPv4 games.

FRITZ!Box Router Login (192.168.178.1)

M-net supplies premium AVM FRITZ!Box routers tailored for their network.

Device Login & Features
FRITZ!Box 7590 AX / 7530 AX

IP: 192.168.178.1
The standard for "Surf&Fon" plans. Supports Supervectoring and WAN.
FRITZ!Box 5530 Fiber
(Direct Fiber connection)

Connects directly to the glass fibre socket (GF-TA) without an extra ONT modem.

Troubleshooting Lights (Red Info LED)

Power/Fiber Light:
- Blinking Green: Syncing. Wait 2-3 minutes.
- Blinking Red: Cabling error or line interruption. Check the fiber patch cable.

Info Light:
- Red: Internet login failed. M-net services might be disrupted, or the router config is corrupted.

The DS-Lite "IPv4 Option" Issue

M-net uses Dual-Stack Lite (DS-Lite) to manage IP addresses. This means you have a public IPv6 address but share an IPv4 address.

Impact: Console gaming (Xbox/PlayStation) may show "Strict NAT", and accessing your home network (VPN/NAS) from outside via IPv4 is impossible.

Solution: You can book the "IPv4 Option" for a small monthly fee (approx €5) to get a real, public Dual-Stack IPv4 address.

When to Contact Support (0800 180 88 88)

Call M-net support if:

The "Power/Fiber" light blinks for more than 15 minutes.

You need to request the IPv4 Option for gaming/work.

You are moving apartments (M-net fiber availability is address-specific).

M-net Speed Test FAQs

Is M-net better than Telekom? M-net often owns the physical fiber lines in Munich/Augsburg (FTTB/FTTH), whereas Telekom relies on VDSL vectoring in many buildings. If M-net offers Fiber and Telekom offers VDSL, M-net is technically superior.

Can I use my own router? Yes, router freedom allows this. However, configuring a non-FRITZ!Box on M-net requires setting the correct VLAN ID (usually 40) and entering PPPoE credentials manually.

Why is my WiFi slow in the evening? Even with fiber, WiFi interference from neighbors is common in Munich apartment blocks. Log in to FRITZ!Box > WiFi > Radio Channel and set it to 'Auto' to avoid congested channels.
