Frontier Speed Test

Use this tool to check your internet connection speed for Frontier Fiber (formerly Fios) and DSL. Frontier has recently upgraded many networks to XGS-PON technology, enabling blazing fast 2 Gig and 5 Gig residential plans.

Understanding your Frontier Speed Test

Frontier Fiber: Fiber is symmetrical. If you have the "Fiber 500" plan, you should see ~500 Mbps download AND ~500 Mbps upload. Ping should be very low (5-15ms).

Frontier DSL: Older copper lines are asymmetrical. You might see 25 Mbps download but only 2 Mbps upload. Ping will be higher (30-60ms).

Frontier Router Login

Frontier typically issues two types of main gateways:

Device Login / Management Notes
Arris NVG468MQ 192.168.254.254 Use admin as username. Password is on sticker.
Amazon Eero Mobile App Only Eero mesh routers cannot be managed via web browser IP.

Troubleshooting Status Lights

Eero Router Lights:

  • Solid White: Connected to internet. Normal operation.
  • Blinking White: Booting up or connecting.
  • Solid Red: No internet connection. Check ONT.
  • Blinking Blue: Setup mode (ready to pair with app).

Arris NVG468MQ Lights:

  • Globe / Internet (Solid Green): Connected purely.
  • Globe (Solid Red / Blinking Red): Authentication failure. Access denied.
  • Globe (Off): No physical signal detected. Check cables.

Troubleshooting & Optimization

1. Multi-Gig Hardware Limits

If you have a 2 Gig or 5 Gig plan, but speeds are capped at 940 Mbps, your computer's ethernet port is likely the bottleneck. You need:

  • A 2.5GbE or 10GbE Network Adapter.
  • Cat6a Ethernet cables (older Cat5e cables are unreliable above 1 Gbps).
  • Connection to the 2.5G port on your eero Pro 6E/Max 7 router.

2. Rebooting the Optical Network Terminal (ONT)

If you have no internet (Red Light), restart the devices in this order:

  1. Unplug your Router (Eero or Arris).
  2. Unplug the power to the ONT (White box on the wall/garage).
  3. Wait 60 seconds.
  4. Plug in the ONT and wait for the "Optical" light to turn Green.
  5. Plug in the Router and wait 3 minutes.

How to Login to Frontier Arris Modem

  1. Ensure you are connected to your Frontier network.
  2. Type 192.168.254.254 (most common) or 192.168.0.1 into your web browser.
  3. Enter the username admin.
  4. Enter the Device Access Code or Password printed on the sticker on the modem.
  5. Navigate to "Wireless" to change your Wi-Fi name or password.

When to contact Frontier Support

Call Frontier at 800.921.8101 if:

  • Your Eero light is Solid Red despite rebooting the ONT.
  • Your Arris Globe light remains Red.
  • You experience frequent disconnects during rain (common signal issue for DSL).

Frontier Fiber FAQs

How do I access my Frontier router settings? Depends on the model. For Arris modems, verify the IP on the sticker (often 192.168.254.254). For eero systems, you MUST use the eero mobile app.

Is Frontier Fiber better than Cable? Yes. Frontier Fiber uses light signals providing symmetrical speeds (e.g. 500/500), whereas cable upload speeds are typically capped at 20-35 Mbps.

What does the "Data" light on the ONT mean? The Data/WAN/Optical light on your wall unit should be stable green. Red indicates a physical line cut or signal loss from the street.
