DoCoMo Speed Test
This tool verifies Internet speeds for NTT DoCoMo subscribers in Japan. Whether you use the popular home 5G (HR02) wireless router or the ultra-stable Docomo Hikari (Fiber) service, testing usually reveals the difference between peak theoretical speeds and real-world performance.
DoCoMo's network is the largest in Japan. However, 5G speeds can vary massively (from 50 Mbps to 800+ Mbps) depending on your distance from a Sub-6GHz or mmWave base station.
Interpreting home 5G (HR01/HR02) Results
Download Speed:
- 5G (Blue Light): Typically 200 - 600 Mbps.
- 4G LTE (Green Light): Typically 50 - 150 Mbps.
- Weak Signal (Yellow):
< 30 Mbps. Consider repositioning.
Note: home 5G is "Best Effort". During lunch hours (12:00-13:00) and evenings, speeds may dip due to
congestion.
Upload Speed:
- 5G/4G: 10 - 40 Mbps. Wireless upload is significantly slower than Fiber.
Ping (Latency):
- 5G: 25-40ms.
- 4G: 40-60ms.
- Hikari 1G (Fiber): 5-15ms. Fiber is superior for gaming (FPS/Fighting games).

Troubleshooting Status Lights (HR02)
5G/4G Lamp:
- Blue: 5G Connected (Strong).
- Green: 4G Connected (Strong).
- Yellow: Signal Weak. Move to window.
- Red: Out of service (No SIM or SIM Error).
Status Lamp:
- Solid White/Blue: Normal operation.
- Blinking Yellow: Software update downloading.
- Solid Red: System Error. Reboot required.
When to Contact DoCoMo Support (151)
Call 151 (from DoCoMo mobile) or 0120-800-000 if:
Your 5G/4G light stays Red despite re-inserting the SIM.
You moved to a new address (home 5G is location-locked; you must update your registered address via My Docomo).
Your Hikari speed is consistently < 50 Mbps wired (may need an IPoE router upgrade).
DoCoMo Speed Test FAQs
Why is my home 5G slow in the evening? Evenings (20:00-24:00) are peak congestion times. If speeds drop below usable levels (< 5 Mbps), try forcing the router to "4G Only" mode in settings, as the 4G band might be less congested than the 5G anchor band in some areas.
Does Docomo throttle data? home 5G is technically "Unlimited", but heavy usage (e.g., terabytes in a few days) may trigger a temporary speed cap. General streaming and gaming are rarely affected.
Is Docomo Hikari IPv6 compatible? Yes. Most modern plans use "IPoE IPv4 over IPv6" (v6 Plus / OCN Virtual Connect) to avoid PPPoE congestion. Ensure your router supports this for the best speed.
